Methodology
Good movers practice moving using the Law of Mastery. The Law of Mastery is a systematic approach to learning that leverages emotional energy and focused action to turn a skill into a talent. When applied to health and fitness, this makes hitting milestones much easier. Rather than focusing on their weight lost or muscle built, those who practice the Law of Mastery will be more concerned with the process and becoming a good mover than results.
How can I become a good mover?
The key to being a good mover is to practice both exercise and innercise. Let's start with the physical component - exercise.
To be a good mover, you must understand and practice what are called our evolutionary movements. These are movements your body was born to do - to hunt, to farm, and to live. These abilities are part of what separates us from the other beings on earth.
There are three main categories of movement we need to practice: health and mobility shapes, foundational movement patterns, and evolutionary skills and patterns. This is what our bodies are intended to do. Mastering these movements will help you transform into a good mover, with the addition of innercise, of course.
Exercise vs. Innercise
Now, you understand a bit about the necessity of specific movements needed in our forms of exercise. What about innercise?
This will be a new term for you. And, it takes some thinking to understand. Innercise is about working from the inside out. Managing your inner world is critical to show up as your best self externally. Innercise involves working on your breathing, posture, diet, organ health as well as mental and emotional clarity
The questions we all must ask ourselves are; which Exercise and which Innercise modality works best for you? The honest answer to that question depends on who is asking. But, if you are in agreement so far about movement being a vital sign, the importance of evolutionary movement and the need to balance Exercise and Innercise, then maybe you’ll trust my suggestions on what to do next.
The Unconventional Method
Exercise + innercise = a good mover.
To get to this point, we've created a training program that addresses both exercise and innercise. The Unconventional Man's training involves the following methods:
- Kettlebell Samurai Method - Ajamu Bernard
- Return to Life through Contrology - Joseph Pilates
- Yoga Breathwork
- Fascia Rolling and Stretching - YTU method
Each of these systems can stand alone and are capable of creating quality changes to your vital signs and movement skills. Yet, each is stronger in some aspect of exercise or innercise than the others. Once these systems are woven together, the result is…exceptional.
